The Smokey Endowment supports the health, well-being, and care of Smokey, the University of Tennessee's beloved Bluetick Coonhound mascot. Smokey receives expert veterinary care from UT's College of Veterinary Medicine, ensuring he benefits from the same world-class medicine and preventive care UT is known for nationwide. This fund helps provide the resources necessary for routine medical care, specialized medical needs, nutrition, housing, enrichment, training, and daily attention that keep Smokey happy and healthy.
Beyond Smokey's individual care, this fund supports the training of his student handlers and elevates live animal mascot care, helping set the standard for how universities and professional teams across the country care for and train their own live mascots.
Smokey is more than a mascot, he is a cherished member of our Tennessee family, embodying school spirit, perseverance, and tradition for students, alumni, fans, and the community alike. From leading the Vols onto the field to lifting spirits on campus, to greeting fans at community events, Smokey's presence brings joy and pride to everyone who loves Tennessee.
By supporting this fund, donors help preserve a cherished Tennessee tradition and promote research and responsible practices that benefit all live animal mascots for generations to come.
